Wedang jahe (Ginger tea)

Wedang jahe (Indonesian ginger tea)

This healthy ginger tea is mainly drunk in Indonesia if you have a stomachache, a cold, the flu or if you are nauseous. Be surprised by this delicious fresh and above all healthy wedang jahe tea.

Preparation

Grate the unpeeled ginger finely and collect the juice as well. Place a pan over a low heat, pour in the water and add the grated ginger with the juice, lemongrass stalks and palm sugar. Bring this to a boil, then turn the heat down and let it steep for another 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and strain the tea. Squeeze the pulp well and serve. Season with honey if desired.

Enjoy this ginger tea

For an extra tasty Wedang jahe tea (Indonesian ginger tea) you only buy fresh ginger that is not dry. Look for ginger with a nice smooth and clean skin. Use fresh ginger with peel because just under the peel is the active ingredient zingibain. This substance aids in digestion and the burning of proteins. If you see a somewhat bluish edge, that's just fine. That blue border indicates that there is enough zingibain in it.

Made to much?

A liter of tea is sometimes too much. If you have any leftover tea, you can freeze the wedang jahe tea for later use. Just like fresh ginger so that nothing is lost. After thawing, the taste may be even stronger.
