Shichimi togarashi
Shichimi togarashi is a Japanese herbal mixture which is also called the 7 Herbs Bland. It goes well with sauces and meat dishes.
Preparation
- Wash and scrub the peel of the orange thoroughly, preferably buy an organic orange
- Peel the orange thinly so that you take as little of the white part as possible with you
- Dry the skins in the oven at 80 degrees or use a fruit dryer
- Then chop the skin into small pieces with a chef's knife
- Grab a frying pan with a thick bottom and briefly fry the sesame seeds (do not use oil)
- Put all ingredients in a blender or mortar and mix or grind them coarsely
Enjoy your dinner!
Put the Shichimi togarashi in a jar that you can close tightly and in a dark place. This way you can easily keep it good for half a year. Do not grind this spice mixture too finely, but keep it a bit coarse so that the distinct flavors are well preserved.
